Settling In

We understand that starting child care is a big milestone – not just for your child, but for you too. Whether it’s their very first time away from home or simply a new setting, it’s completely normal to feel a mix of emotions during the transition.

At Papilio Early Learning, we’re here to support your family every step of the way with care, patience, and personalised guidance to help you both feel confident and at ease.

Settling In with Confidence and Care

Every child is unique, and so is their settling-in journey. Some children feel comfortable right away, while others take a little more time – and that’s absolutely okay. Our dedicated educators take the time to build meaningful connections, learn about your child’s preferences, and help them feel safe, supported, and secure in their new environment.

If your child – or you – are feeling a little unsure, please don’t hesitate to speak with your Centre Manager or educators. We’re always here to help.

Helping Your Child Feel Right at Home

Here are some gentle, effective ways to support your child’s transition into care:

Join a Stay and Play session - Before your child’s official start date, we welcome you to attend a complimentary Stay and Play session. It’s a great chance for your child to explore the learning spaces, meet their educators, and start feeling familiar with the environment.

Ease into the first few days - On your child’s first day (or even first few days), you’re welcome to stay for a little while to help them settle in. Joining them in an activity before you say goodbye can make the transition smoother.

Bring a comfort item - Familiar items like a favourite toy, blanket, dummy or a family photo can offer reassurance throughout the day and help your child feel secure.

Always say goodbye - While it may be tempting to slip away unnoticed, it’s important to say goodbye. This builds trust and helps your child understand that you’ll always come back.

Create a consistent drop-off routine - Children thrive on routine. Establishing a special goodbye ritual – like a hug, a high-five, or a wave at the window – helps them feel more confident about what comes next.

Build a connection with educators - Your child feels most comfortable when they see you connecting warmly with their educators. A positive handover in the morning helps create a sense of security for both you and your child.

Check in anytime - You’re always welcome to call the centre during the day. We’re happy to give you an update, share a special moment, or simply offer peace of mind.
