Early Years Toolbox

butterfly-buzz-1

At Papilio Early Learning, we are committed to providing the most advanced and research-backed approach to early education. As part of our Lifelong Learning Curriculum School Readiness Program, we use the Early Years Toolbox (EYT), a set of innovative, research-driven assessment tools developed by the University of Wollongong. These tools help measure and support key areas of children’s foundational learning, including cognitive development, impulse control, working memory, and social-emotional growth.

What is the Early Years Toolbox?

The Early Years Toolbox (EYT) is a suite of engaging, play-based assessments designed to provide educators with valuable insights into each child's thinking, learning, and emotional development. By using these tools, we can better understand a child's strengths, areas for growth, and how to tailor learning experiences that best support their development.

The toolbox assesses key developmental areas such as:

  • Executive function – Helping children develop skills like focus, memory, and self-control
  • Self-regulation – Supporting emotional resilience and social interactions
  • Language and literacy – Measuring early communication, comprehension, and vocabulary skills
  • Social and emotional development – Understanding how children manage emotions and build relationships

Why We Use the Early Years Toolbox

The EYT allows our educators to:

  • Track developmental progress in a structured and research-based way
  • Personalise learning experiences to meet each child's unique needs
  • Support school readiness by identifying key learning milestones
  • Engage families by sharing insights and progress updates

By integrating EYT into our School Readiness Program, we ensure that children are well-prepared for the transition to primary school, equipping them with essential skills for future success.

A Research-Based Approach to Learning

The University of Wollongong’s Early Years Toolbox is widely used by early childhood professionals and researchers to enhance educational outcomes. By implementing this evidence-based tool, we are providing children with the highest standard of care and education, ensuring they develop the skills they need for school and beyond.
