Improving Language and Thinking Skills in Infants: A Data Informed Approach

The recent data from the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) proposed an increase in Language and Cognitive development of vulnerable children. Based on these findings and other relevant research on children's development, our Healthy Beginnings program has proven effective in improving educational outcomes in critical areas. Here is some insight into how this is achieved.

Language and cognition are deeply intertwined, shaping and influencing one another throughout the developmental journey. As infants begin to acquire language skills, their progress is marked by significant cognitive advancements. Remarkably, this developmental journey commences as early as birth, laying the groundwork for future learning and understanding.

Let's explore some key milestones to observe as infants progress in their language and cognitive development to provide a glimpse into this fascinating process.

How does our Healthy Beginnings Curriculum support Infants' Language and Cognition?

Through the primary caregiving approach, our Healthy Beginnings Educators seek and create avenues to form secure attachments with your baby. Our Educators plan for routine and provide schematic play experiences to facilitate infants' language and problem-solving skills. They often label objects, describe events and role model interactions during routine and play times, allowing your baby to learn fundamental mathematical concepts, such as patterns, behaviours and time.
